LOCAL TAXES

SALES AND USE TAX
The City of Willmar participates in a local one-half (0.5%) percent sales and use tax. Local use tax applies when you purchase goods or services for business or personal use made outside of the political subdivision limits without paying local sales tax to the seller. Residents and businesses are required to remit the local use tax to the State of Minnesota regardless of where or how the item was purchased. For example, if you buy a taxable item for your business or home from an out-of-state seller who does not charge or collect local sales tax.

The Willmar use tax is reported to the Minnesota Department of Revenue at the same time you report your Minnesota use tax, but the figures are reported separately.

Additional information on calculating and paying the City of Willmar local one-half (0.5%) percent sales and use tax can be found on the Minnesota Department of Revenue's website at www.taxes.state.mn.us.

VEHICLE EXCISE TAX
The City of Willmar also participates in a $20 per vehicle excise tax.  Payment of the excise tax is on forms prescribed by the Willmar City Clerk.

Additional information on calculating and paying the Willmar vehicle excise tax can be found by contacting Kevin Halliday, Willmar City Clerk at khalliday@ci.willmar.mn.us.
