Springtime is a critical time for city streets as they are in their weakest condition.  Road restriction posting is a mechanism used to prevent excessive damage to our streets.  Cities, counties, townships, and states, which are in our type of climate, post load restrictions during the spring thaw period.  The criteria used to determine when to begin load restrictions is when the cumulative thaw index is greater than 25 - degree days and the weather forecast predicts temperatures well in excess of 25 degrees.  All of Willmar's local residential streets are posted 5 ton, and the state aid routes are posted 7 ton.
